Why is my Sal Suds cloudy or white?Updated 9 days ago

It's completely normal for our Sal Suds Biodegradable Cleaner* to turn cloudy white and even solidify under colder temperatures. This happens when the ingredients reach their cloud point – the point at which the transparent solution undergoes a phase change or separation. The glucoside and sulfate we use have non-ionic properties that would create a cloudy white appearance when cold, much like coconut oil. When this happens, your product may also start to thicken or solidify; however, it is important to note that this is strictly cosmetic and does not impact the performance or safety of the product.

In the process of solidifying or re-liquefying, you may also notice that your Sal Suds may have a marble-like effect throughout the bottle or at the top. Similarly, you may see cotton ball or dandelion shapes inside, as the product solidifies. I totally understand that this can look a bit strange, but I can assure you that this is perfectly normal behavior for Sal Suds.

How to fix this

Regaining the clarity of your product is super easy! To do so, just reheat your bottle gently in a sink or bowl of warm to hot (not boiling) water to bring it back to its original viscosity and clear state, repeating this process as many times as needed. Note that simply storing a bottle at room temperature generally doesn't warm it enough to make this change, and if you end up storing your bottle in a cool place after warming it up, it's likely to cloud again. But you can also rest easy knowing that this process will not affect the quality or efficacy of your Sal Suds.

*Sal Suds cleaner shows >60% biodegradation after 28 days per ISO 14593.
