Why am I coughing after using my Sal Suds all-purpose spray cleaner?Updated 9 days ago

When spraying our Sal Suds Biodegradable Cleaner* from a spray bottle, a fine mist is often produced in the surrounding area. Depending on your immune system or the sensitivity of your nose, these fine airborne particles may trigger bronchial cells in the lungs, causing a brief bronchial spasm or cough. While this isn't super common, it's completely normal and not a sign of volatile organic compounds (VOCs). We're happy to confirm that our Sal Suds does not contain any toxic ingredients.

To mitigate this experience when cleaning, we recommend setting your nozzle to stream rather than mist, if possible. As many areas of the home, such as the bathroom, may not be well-ventilated, you could also wear a surgical or cloth mask over your mouth and nose to block inhalation of the fine mist. Another option is to simply pour the diluted Sal Suds onto a towel or washcloth and wipe the surface you are cleaning.

While this reaction is normal and temporary, if you have any health concerns, we always recommend consulting your dermatologist or physician, as they can help determine which products may be more suitable for your body.

*Sal Suds cleaner shows >60% biodegradation after 28 days per ISO 14593.
