Palm kernel oil is obtained from the kernel of the palm and is a skin conditioning agent. Palm kernel oil converts to rich, high-foaming soap in the presence of an alkali.

We believe that it isn’t what you grow, but how you grow it. Our palm kernel oil is certified under Ecocert’s Fair for Life program, a rigorous fair trade and sustainable certification that also certifies Dr. Bronner’s existing fair trade coconut and palm oil sister companies, Serendipol and Serendipalm.

Rainforests and orangutan habitats are not harmed in the growing of our organic palm kernel oil (or the palm oil we use in our Bar Soaps). Our organic palm kernel oil originates from smallholder farms in Colombia, where oil palms have been grown for decades and where second- and third-generation farming families now harvest them. The palms are interspersed throughout the regional forests, blending in with the surroundings to provide a healthy environment for plant and animal life. Dr. Bronner’s has taken many measures to ensure that not only that no deforestation or habitat destruction results from the growing or harvesting process, but also that all growing is done organically and sustainably.

We share our customers’ concern about the damage being done to rainforests and orangutan habitats because of conventional palm farming in Indonesia and believe that our fair trade and organic palm kernel oil, grown in Colombia, offers a sustainable alternative.
