Is the Organic Hand Sanitizer FDA approved?Updated a year ago
Our Organic Hand Sanitizer is an over-the-counter (OTC) drug categorized as an antiseptic handrub listed with the FDA. We follow the FDA's rules for certain active ingredients, such as alcohol, to be used in OTC hand sanitizers. Products that follow these established rules are subject to FDA audits and independent testing to ensure quality but do not require pre-market approval.
Hand sanitizers, also known as antiseptics, may be used on hands to lower the number of germs. To clean hands when soap and water are not available, the CDC states that hand sanitizers with ethyl alcohol at a concentration above 60% are effective in reducing most germs. However, soap and water are always best.
While the FDA and CDC do say that alcohol in hand sanitizers kills most germs and is effectively reducing the number of germs on a surface, Dr. Bronner’s cannot guarantee that our Organic Hand Sanitizer will prevent any illness or virus.
