While not all of our products contain organic hemp seed oil, a majority of them do, including all of our soaps and balms.

We originally added a small amount of organic hemp seed oil to our Pure-Castile Soaps back in 1999 as it provided a smoother lather and less drying after-feel. Since then, we have added this ingredient in small amounts to most of our products for the wonderful moisturization it offers.

Hemp seed oil is pressed from the unshelled whole hemp seeds of industrial hemp and is rich in vitamin E, Omega-3, and Omega-6 essential fatty acids. Dr. Bronner’s uses hemp seed oil as an ingredient in all our soaps due to its unsurpassed essential fatty acid content. Hemp seed oil makes our soaps less drying, yields a smoother lather, and is also an excellent moisturizer in our Lotions and Lip and Magic Balms.

Industrial hemp is a non-psychoactive variety of the Cannabis sativa plant species that is grown for the industrial uses of its derived products. It can be refined into a variety of sustainable commercial products including paper, textiles, food, nutraceuticals, non-woven fabrics, composites, insulation, and other building materials.

Our hemp seed oil is not refined but rather it is cleaned, cold-pressed, and filtered to remove gums and some color. Once used in lower amounts in application, the end product is stable at room temperature. We conduct stability testing of finished product to support our 3-year shelf life without the need for storing in the refrigerator.
