Do your soaps remove pesticides from produce?Updated a year ago
The Pure-Castile Soaps and Sal Suds Biodegradable Cleaners* both do an excellent job of removing pesticides that are on the surface of produce. However, they can’t reach any pesticides that fruits or veggies have already absorbed. This is why it's best to purchase non-organic when it can be peeled. However, another option is to purchase your produce at farmers markets. Oftentimes, produce from small family farms may not be certified organic (which is a lengthy and expensive process not within the reach of family farms), but you can still find unsprayed produce.
EWG's Dirty Dozen List or Clean Fifteen List are both great tools to reference when navigating which nonorganic fruits and veggies have the highest and lowest amounts of pesticides in the USA.
*Sal Suds cleaner shows >60% biodegradation after 28 days per ISO 14593.
