Can I wash concrete with the Pure-Castile Magic Soap?Updated 12 days ago
We generally don't recommend using our soaps on unsealed concrete or asphalt, as they can leave an unsightly residue on these surfaces. However, rest assured, they won't cause permanent damage, and the residue left behind tends to only last for a few weeks.
This happens because our soaps are highly reactive to naturally occurring minerals present in concrete, asphalt, and untreated stone. All true soaps, like our Pure-Castile Magic Soap, can react with these minerals to form insoluble stearates, which appear as a whitish precipitate. This effect is more pronounced on surfaces where the soap comes into contact with or dries.
If you accidentally get the soap on these surfaces, you can try using our Sal Suds Biodegradable Cleaner (or any detergent safe for the environment) and baking soda. Start by sprinkling baking soda on the affected area, then apply 2 teaspoons of Sal Suds diluted in a cup of water, and scrub with a stiff brush. Depending on the size and severity of the residue, this may take a little bit of effort. If this doesn't work to lift the residue, you can try rubbing alcohol or, if you are comfortable, a stronger detergent. Again, while this residue may stay present for a period of time, it will eventually completely go away.
