Can I mix Sal Suds Biodegradable Cleaner with bleach?Updated a year ago

While you can mix many things with our Sal Suds Biodegradable Cleaner*, we don't recommend combining it with bleach as bleach is a highly reactive substance. Lisa Bronner puts it best in her blog post "What Can You Mix with Castile Soap?":

Some serious chemistry happens when you mix chlorine bleach with soap (forms a caustic, highly irritating soap), vinegar (forms chlorine gas), or alcohol (forms chloroform). Don’t mix anything into bleach. (Also good to mention specifically not to mix bleach with ammonia, neither of which are green and together form mustard gas.)

Although this post is specifically about mixing ingredients with Pure-Castile Soap, most of the results are equally true for Sal Suds.

Instead, to make an all-purpose spray cleaner with an added antibacterial boost, fill a spray bottle with 1 qt. (1 L) of water. Then add either ¼ c. (60 mL) of our Tea Tree Pure-Castile Liquid Soap or 1 Tbsp. (15 mL) Sal Suds Biodegradable Cleaner and 10-20 drops of tea tree essential oil. Swirl this mixture gently to combine everything and you are ready to go!

You can find a full breakdown of how to make an all-purpose spray also on Lisa Bronner's blog, Going Green with Lisa Bronner

*Sal Suds cleaner shows >60% biodegradation after 28 days per ISO 14593.
