Are Dr. Bronner's products septic system safe?Updated a year ago

Our Pure-Castile Liquid Soap, Pure-Castile Bar Soap, Organic Sugar Soap, Organic Hair Crème, and Sal Suds Biodegradable Cleaner have all been tested and all meet the standard criteria to be classified as “readily biodegradable.” This means that they can all be safely used with a greywater or septic system.

The biodegradability tests show that these products meet stringent criteria that allow us to assume that, when subject to water, oxygen, and microbes (all components of a greywater or septic system), they will wholly and rapidly biodegrade into innocuous material that can be handled by these systems.

While our All-One Toothpaste is not biodegradable due to the minerals: hydrated silica, calcium carbonate, xanthan gum, and sodium bicarbonate (baking soda), it is safe to go into a septic system. Septic tanks get a bit of buildup and should be pumped out every 3 - 5 years. So, if you are disposing of toothpaste down the drain, it’s likely to contribute to this buildup but will get removed during pumping.
